Costume Play on Stage
Your costume is your dance partner, so dance with it! This class focuses on the magic of transitions through reveals, a flow from one reveal to the next with intention, musicality, and flair. From subtle shifts to dramatic flourishes, we’ll explore techniques to keep your audience captivated between each moment, from arrival to reveal. Perfect for beginners to advanced performers looking to refine their stage presence and polish their acts. Bring a costume piece that you might have trouble with or you'd like to explore.
11:15-12:15 - La Reina - Musicality On the Plate
(Lecture & Workshop) A dissection of Musicality. This beginner-to-intermediate workshop blends lecture and flow to help you connect with the music and elevate your stage presence. From classic burlesque jazz to your favorite tunes, dig in to the curl of the music, the dance of the beats, play with tempo to improvise with confidence. Whether you're new to the art or looking to refine your skills, this class will give you the tools to step on the beat with intention. Bring your notebook!
12:30-1:30 - The Chocolate Showboy - Showgirl 101
Come learn the art of the showgirl. How to walk and pose and use body language to boost your acts. Heels are recommended. All levels welcome
1:45-2:45 - Foxy Tann - The Good Emcee
This is a class is a conversation about what makes a good burlesque emcee. With over 20 years of emceeing and hosting in cabarets, burlesque and drag shows, block parties and circuses, Foxy Tann has made a few observations. If you are an aspiring host and emcee this is what The Fox considers the bare minimum that you need to do/know to steer a successful show. From stalling and hecklers to tech f*ck ups and costume malfunctions, you will learn some basic strategies to deal with disasters large and small.
